COVID-19 quickly demonstrated the shortcomings in our food system. Food was destroyed at its source while empty shelves met frantic shoppers inside food stores. There was no process in place for agility. Not for repackaging. Not for rechanneling. Not for redistributing. The breadth of contradictions in the outward signs of food distribution presents a cause for worry and confusion. We attempted to make sense of some of the outcomes that happened as we figured out what to do and how to feed people. We classified the trends we saw according to our matrix. The more mainstream actions such as curbside pickup will fade over time, whereas meal prep and foraging will become a stronger part of our vocabulary. Fortified co-ops will become ever more relevant as time goes on.
